Amos the crow came to us at 3 years old for long term care; being determined by wildlife rehabilitation not able to return to the wild. Severe birth defects caused by nutrition and chemical poisoning is preventing him from living a normal life in the wild.
Along with his obvious physical differences; disfigured scaled feet, scissor beak, and 'punk rock' feathered back, Amos' brain cannot communicate clearly to his wings so flight is impossible.
Crows are incredibly intelligent creatures. Even with Amos' diminished brain function, he can still mimic noises (ambulance sirens, sneezes, etc) and can problem solve on a primitive level. He has bells and rings in his cage for brain stimulation. With such intense human interaction during his early years, he has separation anxiety if not around human activity on a constant basis. He has gone into depression refusing to eat and drink for days if separated. For this reason, he has become a 'house bird'.
He has been here at the Farm for over 12 years.
